The Department of Comparative Study of World Religions of the Islamic Research Institute is committed to studying the world’s religions objectively taking its guidance from the Qur’anic principles of recognition of religious diversity and religious freedom proclaimed in the following verses of the Holy Qur’an:
For each of you We have made a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made a single community of people, but (He did not), so that He may test you in what He has given to you. (al-Qurân 05:48). There is no compulsion in religion. (al-Qurân 2:256). The aims and objectives of the department include  pursuing an ambitious programmed of research in the study of World Religions.

Objectives of the Department

The department was established :
  • To organize seminars, conferences and extension lectures on the study of World Religions.
  • To find out solutions for the problems faced by the followers of different faiths in particular and the humanity in general in light of the Quran and Sacred literature of the Religions .
  • To conduct research on significant topics and themes associated with the world faiths.
  • To revive and rejuvenate the Islamic religious sciences and Islamize the modern sciences in the light of the Qur’an.
  • To facilitate publications of books, monographs, articles and occasional papers on study of the Religions and its allied disciplines.

The Department of Comparative Study of World Religions at Islamic Research Institute is responsible for research on various dimensions of the  Religious Sciences. This department has coordinated a large number of publications and manuscripts that have been published by IRI from its very inception. The department is also responsible for organizing conferences and seminars on various themes of the Religions. It has also organized various lectures on the themes of interfaith dialogue and on understanding  viewpoints of different  Religions.

The department is also responsible to help the journals of IRI in the process of evaluation of research articles that are written on various topics of the Religious Sciences.

Academic Facilities

The department has following facilities for various activities relating to research on different Religions :
As research center, the department has huge data base resource Centre in the shape of books, articles, and other related material, which are related to various dimensions of the Religions.
In Dr. Muhammad Hamid Ullah Library scholars from all around Pakistan can utilize these resources.

Manuscripts

Dr. Muhammad Hamid Ullah Library has a number of unique manuscripts on the Qur’anic Studies  and other sacred books of the Religions and is trying to preserve these manuscripts. The scholars from all over the world can utilize these manuscripts.

Event Organizing Facilities

The department can utilize various facilities for the event management that are available at Islamic Research Institute (IRI) and IIUI, such as Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium, Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Dr. Muhammad Hamid Ullah Library, IRI Seminar Room and IRI Press Faisal Masjid Campus, Islamabad.
