The Department of the Quranic Studies, Islamic Research Institute (IRI), International Islamic University (IIU), Islamabad has arranged a lecture on: “Maulana Hamiduddin Farahi ka Nazm-e-Quran aur uski Ma‘naviyyat” by a well-known Muslim scholar , India, on November 8, 2016 in the Allama Iqbal Auditorium, Faisal Masjid Campus, Islamabad.
A large number of academia of International Islamic University, Islamabad, researchers, intellectuals, students of IIUI and other people of the society attended this lecturer. Professor Islahi presented a brief account of Maulana Farahi’s family background, life, works and his Concept of Nazm-e-Quran in a lucid manner. He told the audience that Maulana Farahi was brought up in an academic family and he was trained as per the injunctions of Islam. He was of the view that Farahi’s thoughts can be divided into three different stages:
1. His stay at Aligarh, India.
2. His time period at Jamia Usmania, Hayderabad Dakkan, India.
3. Attachment with Madrassah Al-Islaah, Azamgarh, India.
During his stay at Aligarh, India, he started contemplation on the Quran and he was influenced by the thought of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, as well. However, he presented a different opinion from Sir Syed Ahmad Khan at some places. Maulana Farahi was of the view that all sciences may be studied under the guidance and instructions of the Quran. The guest speaker told the audience that Maulana Farahi is of the view that every Surah of the Quran has a central theme which is known as ‘Umood and all the other contents of the Surah revolve around the main theme. Maulana Farahi divided Surahs into nine groups from the nazm point of view. Furthermore, he told the audience that Surahs of the Quran were revealed in pair (zouj). Surah al-Fatiha is the opening of the Quran and all the other Surahs revolve around the theme of Surah al-Fatiha in one way or the other.
Finally, he threw light on the research work done by different scholars on Farahi’s thought in detail. At the end, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali gave his presidential address and question-answer session was held thereafter.
