IRI ORGANIZED A CONDOLENCE REFERENCE IN MEMORY OF LATE JUSTICE PROFESSOR DR. MUHAMMAD AL-GHAZALI ON JANUARY 11, 2024 AT ALLAMA IQBAL AUDITORIUM

The Institute of Islamic Research, International Islamic University, Islamabad, organized a condolence reference in memory of Justice Professor Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali. The reference was chaired by Dr. Waqar Masood, the current advisor to the Government of Pakistan and former Vice President of IIUI. It was attended by prominent personalities including Prof. Dr. Sajid-ur-Rehman, Former Vice President, IIUI. In his opening address, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, the Director-General of the Islamic Research Institute, expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali. He also commended the services of the late professor, noting that his efforts had elevated the research journal “Al-Dirasat al-Islamiyyah” to a prominent position among journals at both national and international levels.
Representing the family, Former Director-General of Shariah Academy, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yusuf Farooqui, shared that Dr. Ghazali was brimming with love for Islam and Pakistan. Ahmad Hamza al-Ghazali, his son, recalled his father’s belief that the most valuable possession a person could have is knowledge of Sharia and Quran, viewing these sciences as superior to world and whatever is in it.
Dr. Waqar Masood, the chief guest, described Dr. Ghazali as a humble man with a special connection to the Holy Quran, frequently reflecting on its interpretation. He also highlighted that both Dr. Ghazali and his elder brother, Professor Dr. Mahmood Ghazi, former president of the International Islamic University, were honored by Allah and served as judges on the Shariah Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ilyas, Director-General of Dawah Academy, Dr. Ikram ul Haq, Secretary of the Islamic Ideology Council of Pakistan, Dr. Syed Abdul Ghaffar Bukhari, Dr. Shahzad Iqbal Sham, Dr. Kashif Sohail, and others also shared their thoughts.
The session concluded with Qari Abdul Rahman Bazi reciting the Holy Quran for the repose of the soul of Justice Professor Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghazali, and Dr. Hafiz Aftab Ahmed offering prayers for the late professor and beloved ones of others colleagues. Professor Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, the Director-General of the Islamic Research Institute, expressed gratitude to the family and distinguished guests, while Dr. Muhammad Sajid Mirza served as the event’s host.
An exhibition of books and research articles written by late Dr. Gazali was also arranged by Dr. Muhammad Hamidullah Library for the participants
